The game of golf is such a perfect parable of the Christian’s progress, that (with apologies to John Bunyan) this book could have been entitled "Faithful’s Fairway" Almost every aspect of the game serves as a parable. The Christian golfer can enjoy his or her golf even more when they come to realise what a wonderful analogy of the Christian life is found in the game of golf. Perhaps had they played golf in the time of Jesus, He would have called golfers as well as anglers to be his Disciples. This parable of the Gospel brings light upon one aspect of the gospel that is often neglected. It is that of discipleship. For the true disciples learns to die daily to their own will, and understands the true meaning of the cross. If we see to the dieing, God see to the resurrection. Every day we choose, to live in the flesh or live in the Spirit. There are no promises that reading this book will improve your golf, but it will give you something worthwhile to think about as you suffer the disobedience of a wayward ball, rather than wondering why you ever started playing in the first place. There cannot be a more pleasant union than the Golfer who is also a Christian, or should I say a Christian who is also a golfer. Any christian golfer will find both pleasure and profit in reading this short book. Some might see an aspect of the christian life which they have never seen before and so help them on the way more perfectly. I cannot promise it will help you on your fairway more perfectly. I will leave that to the thousands who have written such books . If you are like me and have read many golf advice books and they haven’t helped improve your golf, then I think I can promise that if you take this parable to heart it will improve your christian life. And if it doesn’t, then when we meet in heaven I will give you your money back. |
